The Beech Grove Hornets recently completed their winter athletic season. As stated by Athletic Director Matt English, “We had an outstanding winter season; please take a moment to congratulate these young people and their coaches when you have the opportunity.”
The Hornet Boys Swim Team won the ICC Championship, led by coaches Oskar Vuskalns and Jim Wilder. The following young men were named All-Conference: Allen Mayer, Kodiak McBrayer, Richie Conway, and Willie Johnson in the 200 Medley Relay – Sam Ulery in the 200 Freestyle – Richie Conway in the 100 Butterfly – Adam Messer in the 100 Freestyle – Sam Ulery in the 500 Freestyle – Adam Messer, Willie Johnson, Kodiak McBrayer, and Rhoe Richason in the 200 Freestyle Relay – Adam Messer, Richie Conway, Sam Ulery, and Rhoe Richason in the 400 Frestyle Relay.
The Hornets Girls Swim Team was led by Coach Lori Lamar. Recie Johnson earned ICC All-Conference in the 100 breast stroke and 500 freestyle. Recie also set the school record in the 100 breast stroke. Ellen Skidmore also earned All-Conference in the 100 freestyle.
The Hornet Wrestling Team was led by Coach Matt Irwin. Earning ICC All Conference were Demonte Dawkins at 106 lbs., Taz Young at 113 lbs., Ben Harmon at 120 lbs., Evan Smiley at 126 lbs., AJ Ellis at 138 lbs., and Tre’von Sevion at 145 lbs. Dawkins, Sevion, and Smiley were all Regional qualifiers. Representing Beech Grove at Semi-State were Sevion and Smiley, with Smiley also being a State Finalist.
The Beech Grove Boys Basketball Team was led by Coach Matt English. Joey Cardenas and Kori Sublett both earned ICC All-Conference honors. They both were also named Honorable Mention All-Marion County, as voted on by the basketball coaches of Marion County.
The Hornet Girls Basketball Team was lead Coach Denise McClanahan. Senior Taylor Johnson earned Honorable Mention Academic All-State.
The following student athletes earned ICC Academic All-Conference: Michael Jennings and Joe Pich (boys basketball), Taylor Peavey (girls basketball), Richie Conway (swimming), Molly Wolfe (cheerleading), and Rachel Elliott (wrestlerettes) To earn this honor, a student must possess a GPA of 3.76 or higher and be a varsity athlete.
