Yesterday’s regional at Connersville was the perfect setting for Jason Smith to challenge the school record in the 1600 meters. A pleasant temperature, very little wind, and quality competition aided Jason and pushed him to a personal best of 4:28.69. That effort was enough for Jason to finish 6th in the regional and break the 31-year-old school record. This is Jason’s junior year so expectations will be high when he returns as a senior. Congratulations Jason on your PR and new record.
*The previous record of 4:30:00 was set by Viktor Vuskalins in 1983.
