Game Recap

The Beech Grove boys basketball team opened up the season with an exciting road victory at Greenfield Central. Greenfield Central’s fan base was excited about their new head coach and the direction of the team as they showed that by packing the gym full of blue and yellow. Beech Grove’s fan base traveled really well and was represented behind the Beech Grove bench.

The Hornets got off to a fast start with a 18-5 1st quarter which ended on a half court buzzer beater from Senior guard Jacob Brickley!

Beech Grove went into the half with a 14 point lead behind a spirited team effort and stifling defense. Jordan Boyd lead the way hitting three 3’s in the 1st half. Overall the team was 5-10 from behind the arc.

Greenfield Central fought back in the 3rd quarter to cut the lead to single digits. Although the Cougars fought back the end of the quarter was still ended with great passing by the Hornets and a 3 point shot hit by Roger Gwinn with only a second remaining on the clock.

The 4th quarter was set up for a final showdown of who could out last the other team and the Cougars kept clawing their way back into the game. Greenfield Central tied the game up at 58 a piece with a 3 point shot in the corner. The Hornets were fouled on their possession and missed the front end of a one and one free throw. The Cougars had the ball for what they thought would be the last possession. The Cougars best player received the ball drove in and took a contested jump shot too soon in the game which allowed Matt Baughman to secure the backside rebound and find a sprinting Jordan Boyd down the court for a lay up at the buzzer!

The Hornets won the game 60-58 in a hostile environment. Jordan Boyd led the team in scoring with 16 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 steals. Jacob Brickley scored 13 points off the bench as well as 7 rebounds. Matt Baughman and Chase Andries both scored double digits as well with 11 and 10 respectively.

Overall the Hornets were excited about their win and look forward to Saturday’s game vs Manual. The Hornets will host Manual at Beech Grove Middle School. It will be a ‘Throwback’ night as the fans of Beech Grove are encouraged to wear ‘old school’ Beech Grove gear at the game. Don’t have any? The Beech Grove basketball program will be cleaning out their closets and selling old jerseys, shorts, and shirts for a $1 a piece.

JV tips at 6 and Varsity will follow. See you Saturday night at BGMS!
