Multiple Teams · Boys Tennis Season Update

I had the chance to sit down with Coach Carter of the boys tennis team and he answered a few questions on his 1st year as the head boys tennis coach.

How many years have you been coaching your respective sport?

I was an assistant boys tennis coach with Joe Moore (former head coach) for 8 years. The 2015 season will be my first as head coach.

How did the summer go?

The summer went well. We had a consistent number of dedicated athletes show up for conditioning and practices. Like any other sport, the offseason is an important time to work on the fundamentals of your game.

Who are your returning players?  Of those returning who are the players that are expected to make big contributions?

We have several returning players this year. Cody Carter (senior), Tyler Griffith, Tyler Ramsey, Brent Strahla, and Connor Carter (all juniors), along with Patrick Heffernan (sophomore) will be expected to make positive and meaningful contributions to the varsity team’s success this season.

We have numerous other returning players who continue to improve daily (Caleb McIntosh, Nathan Tepp, Ted Hardesty, Chris McManus, and Patrick Lamb).

Who are your new comers?  Any new comers expected to make big contributions?

We have 6 players new to the high school team this season. Levi Miller and Noah Eversole put in a lot of hard work over the summer. Jordan Sneed, Jacob Neff, Logan Gudat, and Cainon Crawley are fairly new to the sport and have been excited to learn the game.

You have started your season…what’s your results so far?

Our season is still in the early stages but we have two victories over Speedway (3-2) & Southport (3-2) and 3 losses to Mooresville (1-4), Scecina (2-3), and Cardinal Ritter (2-3).

What’s your vision for the season?  Is this a rebuilding year or do you expect to make some noise?  Win conference?  County?  Sectionals?  Are you young and expect to grow as the season goes on?

My goal is to improve every time we step on the tennis court and work to create a culture of pride and accountability within our team. I would like to see this team place in the top three at our conference tournament, advance past the first round or second round of the county tournament, and compete for a sectional title.

Anything else you would like to add?

I appreciate the opportunity to coach these tennis student athletes and I look forward to seeing what this season has in store for our team.
