Game Recap

The Beech Grove Hornets travelled to face the Greenwood Woodmen on a very wet night. The Hornets got to play on a turf field that produced a very quick-paced game of soccer, especially when combined with the rain that fell throughout the evening. Beech Grove continued to improve their passing and possession, resulting in many opportunities to score. The Greenwood goalkeeper had a strong game though, stopping a well-placed free kick shot from senior Shawn White heading for the upper right corner as well as blocking a one-on-one from junior Aaron Wills. Eventually, the constant offense from the Hornets yielded results. With five minutes left in the first half, junior Isaac Morphew was able to score off a cross from Wills. Despite some quick counter attacks from Greenwood, the Beech Grove defense kept the Woodmen scoreless throughout the entire match, resulting in a final score of 1-0.

A JV half was played after the varsity match. The junior varsity players continued to improve on their passing and possession as well. One area of improvement for the Hornets though is defense and marking up, as the Woodmen scored multiple times with several well-placed shots to the upper corners of the goal. The Hornets lost the JV half 3-0.

Beech Grove next hosts the Monrovia Bulldogs on Saturday morning at 10:00am at the Beech Grove Middle School Track. Thank you to all the fans and parents that came out and braved the rainy conditions tonight.
