Multiple Teams · Volleyball Senior Night

The Lady Hornets senior volleyball night is this Thursday, October 13th.  The Lady Hornets will take on Covenant Christian starting with JV at 5:30.  The senior volleyball players will be acknowledged following the JV game.  The senior players include Abbe Ferrer, Claire Adamson, Michele Jennings, Kylee Gann, Breanna Courtney, Erika Leak, and Kayla Matkins.

I asked Coach Hall to share some information on her seniors, and here is what she had to say!
This group of girls have been one of my favorite to coach because they all get along and there is no drama, even though there are 7 of them! They all work hard every day, were very coachable, and were great teammates. They work together and no one tries to do it all on their own, they lean on each other and play as one. They have great chemistry unlike other groups I have coached in the past. I know these girls have waited for their senior year and envisioned how it was going to be such an incredible year for them and the rest of the team. However, unfortunately this year hasn’t exactly gone as we all expected from the beginning.
First, Erika Leak (returning starter in the back row) broke a bone in her foot in the last week of summer workouts. She was in a boot for several weeks and was just released and able to play the past 3 weeks.  She has been playing libero ever since Bre Courtney got a concussion, another senior injury!
Second, we lost our team captain, libero, and the glue of our team, Michele Jennings, when she tore her ACL in practice before we ever had our first game.
Third, (Abbe Ferrer) our starting middle hitter, 3 year starter on varsity, and also team captain, rolled her ankle in practice after only our 2nd game of the season and has been out until Thursday of last week.
Then (Bre Courtney) who has been our libero this year, was hit in the head during a game and has been out with a concussion for which she was fully released this week.
As you can see this hasn’t exactly been the best year for Beech Grove volleyball. However they have never given up and they continue to make adjustments and play on!!  It breaks my heart for all of them, because they have worked so hard and they deserved to have a great season this year.
Kayla Matkins has done a great job of moving around and playing whatever position we have needed her to play!  This isn’t ideal and most players would complain about it, but she has never said a word. She just does what is best for the team!
Claire Adamson stepped into the starting setter position this year with minimal experience and has done a fantastic job for us.  She continues to get better and smarter as the season goes on.
Kylee Gann has also improved this year in the back row, and is one of our most consistent passers!
While this year has been disappointing, I can’t be more proud of my seniors for keeping a positive outlook and coming to practice every day to get better!
Also, Angelina Robison has been our manager the past 3 years. She is a BOSS. During practices she helps us out tremendously (runs the clock, tosses balls for drills, shags balls, etc) At games she keeps the book for us and we greatly appreciate it. We will be so lost without her next year.
Come out Thursday for Senior night to support the Lady Hornets!
