Multiple Teams · Vote for the Top Athlete of the Fall Sports Season


Since everyone is in the voting mood with the elections coming up on November 8th, the athletic department decided to have it’s first ever ‘Top Athlete of the Fall Sports Season’ award voted upon by the fans!

Coaching staffs were asked to nominate an athlete from their sport who excelled on the field, court, or course!  Take a look at the following athletes and vote for the Hornet you feel is deserving of the ‘Top Athlete’ award!

Katie Giller – Lady Hornets Volleyball

She led our team in kills with 270 and a hitting percentage of .467 (that’s really good!) and a kill percentage of 68.6. She also led our team in digs with 266. She was 2nd in blocks with 84.  She was our go to player all season-we relied on her every game! Katie was also named all-conference and all-county! – Coach Hall

Sam Elliott – Boys Soccer

Samuel Elliott.  Senior.  Team Captain.  Leads by example as well as verbally.  Strong academic grades.  Played sweeper, which is the last man on defense before the goalkeeper.  Strong and fast athlete.  Plays with his heart.  Contributed several goals as well as assists despite playing defense most of the season. – Coach Barkman
Chase Andries – Football

Varsity QB for the 8-3 Hornets football team.  Most wins by the Hornet football team since 1985.  Chase was your prototypical dual-threat quarterback with over 2,400 yards passing and 870 yards rushing.  He threw for 32 touchdowns with only 6 interceptions, and he rushed 11 touchdowns as well.  Chase played both sides of the ball and finished the season with 45 tackles, 1 sack, 10 passes defended, and 1 interception return for a touchdown. Chase was the team’s punter, place kicker, and he was in charge of kick offs too! – Coach Weller

Conner Kelley – Boys Cross Country

Conner is a junior on the boys cross country team. He’s been the #1 runner on the team all season and earned his 3rd varsity letter this season. This was Conner’s 2nd consecutive season advancing to semi-state.  He ended the year with a personal record & he’s on the all time top 10 junior list for BGHS Cross Country runners. – Coach Vuskalns
Connor Carter – Boys Tennis

 Connor Carter is a four year tennis player and a three year varsity letter winner. Connor consistently improved throughout his high school career. Connor played #3, #2, and #1 singles during his sophomore, junior, and senior seasons respectively. Connor had a successful senior season as he posted a 2-1 record in the Speedway Invitational, in which the team placed first. Connor also placed well in the ICC tournament at Park Tudor, where he placed third for #1 singles. Connor had a winning head to head record this season against ICC opponents (5-3). Overall, Connor posted a 6-9 individual record for the season. He competed against every school’s best player. Connor played a key role in our overall success as a team. Off the court, Connor is at the top of the 2017 class. Connor currently has a 4.298 GPA making him second in the class. Connor is a model student-athlete and will be missed next season. – Coach Carter
