Good morning and Happy Friday!
Last night was a huge night for BGHS athletics!
The girls basketball team remains undefeated, but not without being tested last night at Franklin Community High School.
The girls trailed 37–36 at the half and led by only 3 going into the 4th qtr. Things were even more dire late in the game—the girls trailed Franklin 69-67 with under 10 seconds remaining.
It was at that time that senior guard Cameron Cardenas dialed up a deep 3-pointer (her 22nd, 23rd and 24th points of the night), putting the Lady Hornets ahead for good 70-69 with only seconds remaining! The girls hung on for a thrilling 70-69 victory to push their season record to 7-0.
Once again, Cardenas and senior classmates Katie GIller (25 points, 8 rebounds) and Mallory Storms (8 points, 10 rebounds) led the way, along with a strong effort from sophomore Neasia Lee (5 points, 9 rebounds).
The girls will get a stiff test next Tuesday, December 5th at home against top 5 ranked (4A) Pike in the opening round of the Marion County Tournament; tip time is 7 pm next Tuesday.
Also continuing to roll is the Lady Hornets swim and dive team. The girls are off to their best start in recent memory, pushing their season record to 5-1 with a dominating win last night at Decatur Central.
