Boys Varsity Basketball, Coed Varsity Wrestling · Matt’s Minutes : Weekend Success

Good morning everyone, hope your week is off to a great start!

I wanted to bring you up to date on some good work over the weekend:

Let’s start with wrestling; BG sent seniors Ethan Smiley and Bailey Moore to the IHSAA State Championship Friday and Saturday at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.

Unfortunately, Baileys’ season came to an end Friday evening. Although he didn’t advance as far as we had all hoped, Bailey put together a stellar senior campaign, finishing the season with a 37-4 record and earning an ICC championship and he was also the IHSAA regional champion!
For his career Bailey put together some outstanding achievements:
*3 time conference champion
*2 time sectional champion
*2 time regional champion
Ethan won his first match Friday evening, but fell short in his quarterfinal match Saturday morning. Fortunately, he bounced back well, earning a 7th place state finish in the 126 lb weight class. Saturday puts a cap on a tremendous career for Ethan:
*4 time state qualifier
*4 time conference champion
*3 time Marion County champion
*1 sectional championship
*2 regional championships
*1 semi-state championship
Congratulations to both Bailey and Ethan; Obviously these young men are talented wrestlers, but most importantly they are wonderful student-athletes and great ambassadors for our school and community!
Moving on to boys basketball; By defeating Triton Central 70-57 Friday night, the boys varsity basketball team earned a share of the Indiana Crossroads Conference Championship!
Also of note in the boys basketball program; The JV team picked up two wins over the weekend, pushing their season record to 20 wins, 0 losses! Both varsity and JV close out their regular seasons this Friday, February 23rd at Whiteland.
The winter season has proven to be very successful for BGHS Athletics–we have earned 3 conference championships during the winter season:
Girls basketball, boys basketball and boys swimming (8th consecutive ICC championship!)     This is the first time since the fall of 2015 that BG has won 3 or more conference titles in one athletic season. That fall,  football, girls golf and boys cross country all won the conference.

Great job and congratulations to all of our programs and coaches!
