Boys Varsity Tennis · Season Preview for Boys Tennis – Interview with Head Coach Brian Carter

Fall sports are in full swing after completing the 2nd full week of official practice.  The boys tennis team has been working hard to this off season and I got a chance to sit down with Head Coach Brian Carter to talk about the boys tennis team.

    • How many years have you been the head coach of your sport?
  • This is my fifth year as head coach and 12th year with Beech Grove boys tennis program.
    • How did the summer training/practice go?  Did you take any special team trips/team bonding activities?
  • Summer practice went really well. Many players from the middle school and high school (boys and girls teams) were able to practice together. Our entire program was able to improve technique and skill throughout the summer.
    • Who are your seniors?  Who are your returning players?  Of those returning, who are the players that are expected to make big contributions?
  • Levi Miller is our lone returning senior. He is a four year varsity player and will spend time playing #1 singles and doubles. Our team has a number of returning players (Collin Eckstein, Trent Eckstein, Dean Hayward, and Cody Shepherd) that will provide significant contributions this season.

    • Who are your new comers?  Any new comers expected to make big contributions?  Any freshman or sophomores playing up?
  • Cameron Reed is a sophomore who has been working hard all summer and is getting better everyday. I am excited to watch his growth as a tennis player throughout this season.
    • What’s your vision for the season?  Is this a rebuilding year or do you expect to make some noise?  Win conference? County? Sectionals? Are you young and expect to grow as the season goes on?
  • We are a small team in terms of numbers but we have many returning players with varsity experience. I think we will compete for the Speedway Invitational and I hope to earn a top four finish at our conference tournament in September.
