The Indiana high school football season is upon us as the Beech Grove Hornets open up against Lutheran tomorrow night, 7 pm at Beech Grove High School. The team has been working hard this offseason, getting stronger and faster to make some noise on the field this season. The Hornets lost some key contributors last season but there are plenty of guys looking to step up this season to take their place. Head Coach, Mark Weller, believes this could be one of the Hornet’s best seasons yet. Coach is entering into his 28th year coaching high school football, and his 14th as a head coach. This will be his 8th year coaching at Beech Grove and he currently has a record of 31-42.
“If we stay healthy and reach our potential, we could have our best year.” – HC Mark Weller
This summer the Hornets had five 11 on 11 scrimmages with the idea of getting a lot of unexperienced players reps on the field together. The guys worked hard and Coach Weller felt the team accomplished a lot this summer. Some returning players who will be main contributors on both sides of the ball for the team are Terrice Pope, Jordan Reel, Kyion Tyler, Romeo Echols, Josh Fryar, Max Comado, Charles Ellis, Jake Weller, Sergio Hulse, Shawn Smalls, Aden Cailey, Ryan Tabor, and Dallas Culpepper. Other players looking to make an impact this season that are new to the school or varsity ranks will be Gavin Mitchell, Quanzelle Jones, Teron Washington, Ayden Brooks, Kyonni Johnson, and Donovan Bailey.
Good luck to the Beech Grove football team this season as they look to turn some heads on the field this season. Cost of admission is free to Beech Grove High School students with their Student ID card. K-8 students of Beech Grove only have to pay a $1 a piece but must be accompanied by an adult. All other spectators must pay the standard IHSAA cost of admission of $5.
See you tomorrow night for the home opener! Go Hornets!
