Hornets News · Cameron Cardenas – Honored with Plaque and Framed Jersey

Cameron Cardenas was honored last week with a plaque listing her accomplishments as a Lady Hornet and her North-South all-star jersey was framed which will be displayed in the athletic lobby of Beech Grove High School.  Cameron will go down as one of the all-time great athletes Beech Grove High School has ever seen.  Cameron finished 2nd in career points (1,709) behind the best athlete in Beech Grove history, Katie Gearlds.  Cameron also finished 3rd in steals (403) and assists (307) for her career.  Cameron was nominated all-state 2017-18 by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association her senior year.  She was also on the Indy Star Super Team for girls basketball.  Cameron was named 4 times to the Indiana Crossroads all-conference team.  Lastly, Cameron was also a two-time state track qualifier in the 200-meter race as a freshman and sophomore.  Cameron chose to not run track her junior and senior year to focus on basketball.

Coach Raker had this to say about Cameron;

“Cameron has certainly left her mark here within the Beech Grove Girls basketball program. Her time spent here she brought back a passion for the game that had been missing. Cameron was the ultimate team player from being a supportive teammate and a respectful, coachable player. She was the true definition of a student-athlete excelling in the classroom and on the court. I also had the opportunity to have her as my cadet teacher and watch her make relationships with elementary students who truly looked up to her. Basketball is an avenue for so many opportunities and I know Cameron has a bright, successful future as she continues her journey at Marian University. Thank you, Cameron, for putting beech grove girls basketball back on the map and always know you are a part of hornet history.”
Cameron is now a freshman at Marian University playing back up point guard for the Knights and head coach Katie Gearlds.  Cameron is studying elementary education at Marian and is looking forward to becoming a teacher after her playing days are over.  The Beech Grove Athletics department will continue to follow Cameron through her collegiate playing days wishing her the very best on and off the court.
