The Beech Grove boys basketball team, cheerleaders, coaches, and fans may be a little tired this morning after being involved in a game that went into four overtimes! The Hornets took down fellow southside opponent, the Southport Cardinals! The game went back and forth the entire night, and the men in stripes got a workout as well as they called over 65 fouls in the game. Southport finished the game with four players in the closing seconds while Beech Grove had four players foul out.
A big moment in the game was at the end of the 3rd overtime when John Parker was able to get off a half-court shot before the buzzer sounded. Parkers shot went in the basket to the thrill of the Beech Grove crowd and his 3 points sent the game into the 4th overtime.
In the 4th overtime, the Hornets sealed the victory when Josh Copenhaver was fouled on an offensive rebound with less than three seconds on the clock. Josh stepped to the line and hit his first free throw to give his team a one-point lead. The Hornets defeated the Cardinals 86-85!
Congratulations to the boys’ basketball team for their hard fought victory!
They will be back in action at home on Saturday versus the Danville Warriors. The weather will be closely monitored to determine if we will need to postpone the game or not. If not, we hope to see you in the stands at Beech Grove with the JV tipping at 6 pm.
