Hornets News · Where Are They Now? Villis Vuskalns

A commitment this year within the athletic department has been to provide information on BGHS alumni who continue to compete at their respective sports at the collegiate level.  We have created a “Hornets Competing at a Higher Level” page within our athletic website to recognize those student athletes.  As we transition to a new athletic season it is the perfect time to highlight an athlete who continues to push himself both academically and athletically.

Villis Vuskalns (class of 2016) attends Trine University where he is pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering.  He is also a senior runner on the Trine cross country team and indoor/outdoor track teams.  Last week Villis ran in his final MIAA conference cross country meet.  He led his team with a time of 26:37.  This time was good enough for Villis to place 7th over in the conference meet.  Trine is a nationally ranked 33rd in D-3 cross country and the team came in second behind number 11 ranked Calvin.  To cap off the successful day, Villis earned first team All-Conference.

Villis and the Trine Thunder cross country team will be back in action on November 16th in Grand Rapids, MI.  The runners will be competing at their regional meet racing to qualify for nationals.  We wish Villis and his teammates the best of luck this weekend on their push to nationals.
