Hornets News · Alumni Association to Dedicate Matt English Memorial

Tuesday, November 26th is our first boys basketball home game of the 2019/2020 season.  The Hornets are coming off of a thrilling season last year that took them all the way to the regional finals.  The exciting journey was sadly accompanied by the loss of Coach Matt English to cancer nearly one year ago.  Coach Mike Renfro, then named interim coach, now leads the varsity squad in what we hope will be another competitive and successful season.  Several varsity players will be returning which include Josh Copenhaver, Jajuan Allison, Josh Fryar, Jadyn Curry, Gavin Mitchell and Vin Pich.  We hope to see you out cheering on the team as they kick off their season.

Between the JV and the Varsity game, Richard Compton from the Beech Grove Alumni Association will be presenting a plaque in memory of Matt English to the English family and the Beech Grove High School Athletic Department.  The plaque is a dedication to all that Matt English brought to the school and the community using the We Before Me philosophy.  The plaque will be installed inside the school’s athletic lobby where attendees can view it before entering the gymnasium and Matt English court.
