WNBA star Tamika Catchings has been giving back to the community through her Catch The Stars Foundation since 2004. The foundation’s main initiative is to, “…empower youth to achieve their dreams by providing goal-setting programs that promote fitness, literacy, and youth development.” Another major arm of the foundation is the Catch The Stars Scholarship that awards scholar-athletes $10,000-$20,000 for college expenses. Typically athletes are honored in a large celebration. However, this year due to Covid-19, scholar-athletes receiving the scholarship attended a virtual celebration where they were honored and awarded the scholarship check.
The Beech Grove Athletic Department is proud of recent graduate, Hanna Chandler, for being named one of the recipients of the scholarship. Hannah received the full $20,000 scholarship which she will put to use next year as she moves on to IUPUI. Hannah is excited about the next phase of her life as she plans to major in nursing for a future career in healthcare.
At Beech Grove High School Hannah was a three-sport athlete and earned 13 varsity letters (4 Soccer, 3 Cross Country, 3 Basketball, 3 Track). She was also awarded ICC Academic All-Conference which requires an earned varsity letter with a cumulative GPA of 3.76 or higher.
The Beech Grove Athletic Department wishes Hannah the best of luck at IUPUI. We know you’ll do great, and we were proud to have you as a Hornet.
