The Hornets got off to a quick start. Senior Captain Nic Ancelet led the game off with a single to left field. Later in the inning, after a couple Sparkplug errors, the Hornets were able to find a hit by Freshman Justin Marsh to score 2 runs in the first. Sophomore Ace Seth Walters pitched three great innings to begin the game only throwing 7 pitches in the first inning. The fourth inning was a rough one for the team as a couple mental errors and 1 in-game error allowed the Sparkplugs to score a few unearned runs. The next two innings the Hornets were able to make enough plays defensively to contain the Sparkplugs offense. Down 4-2 going into the seventh, the Hornets first two batters made outs. The top of the lineup for the Hornets came up and executed finding a big two out hit from Garrett Esposito scoring two extra runs. An error by the Sparkplugs pitched scored the third run of the inning for the Hornets. However in the bottom of the seventh, a couple of bunts by the Sparkplugs and a mental error from the Hornets allowed the Sparkplugs to fill the bases up. The Sparkplugs found a clutch hit that got through the hole between first and second base to secure a victory for the Sparkplugs. The Hornets are next in action this Thursday at home against Triton Central. The team starts the Marion County tournament this Friday at home against Warren Central.
