The Hornets had a rough 1st inning that set the tone mostly for the rest of the game in a 9-3 loss to Lawrence Central on Friday.
Beech Grove Hornets Varsity lost despite out-hitting Lawrence Central seven to six.
Lawrence Central scored five runs in the fifth inning, most of the runs committed by a grand slam. The offensive firepower by Lawrence Central was led by #9 and #22, all sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.
#3 led the Lawrence Central to victory in the circle. She went seven innings, allowing three runs on seven hits and striking out seven.
Lexi Ham took the loss for Beech Grove Hornets Varsity. She went four and a third innings, allowing nine runs on five hits striking out four and allowing numerous walks. Caley Johnson came in to pitch for the Hornets and did a fantastic job shutting down their hitters the rest of the game.
Beech Grove Hornets Varsity racked up seven hits. Taylor Harmon and Tia O’Connor all managed multiple hits for Beech Grove Hornets Varsity. O’Connor and Harmon all had two hits to lead Beech Grove Hornets Varsity.
Unfortunately, our pitching and defense hurt us this game as we out hit them. This was also the first round of the Marion County Tournament and so the Hornets did not advance to the next round.
