Led by the 16 points of freshman Jeremiah Tate, Coach Larry Williams’ junior varsity Hornets improved to 7-2 with a 62-48 win over the host Monrovia Bulldogs Saturday night at the Monrovia Middle School gymnasium.
Tate received support from sophomores Rynell Echols and Damon Thompkins, who added 15 and 14 points respectively. Freshman Cameron Brown scored 11 points, nine of those coming on three-point field goals. Sophomore Troy Heckathorne was the only other scorer for Beech Grove with six points.
Junior Cole Eastman led the Bulldogs with a game-high 20 points while sophomore Wyatt Shrake poured in 16.
This contest was played in the Monrovia Middle School gym, adjacent to the Branch McCracken Memorial Gymnasium, due to a girls varsity basketball game between Monrovia and Linton-Stockton, which preceded the boys game between the Hornets and the host Bulldogs. The junior varsity girls game between Monrovia and Linton-Stockton followed the boys junior varsity game in the middle school gym.
Beech Grove, who was playing without star Damonte Henderson, who suffered a hand injury during the past week, will be idle until this coming Saturday night when it travels to Scecina for an Indiana Crossroads Conference game against the host Crusaders. Game time is 6 p.m.
