Senior Frankie Weilbrenner has put his name on the BGHS Track & Field record board. Specializing in throwing events, Frankie earned his record in the shot put. In a home meet against Triton Central and Cardinal Ritter, Weilbrenner threw the shot a total distance of 52' 11". Our previous record holder was Josh Fryar, who set the record back in 2019 with a throw of 52' 4.5". For those unfamiliar with shot put, the event requires a specific blend of technique and strength. In high school, male athletes throw a 12 lb. (5.44 kg) weighted ball from just under the chin. Athletes cannot step on or outside the iron ring during the throw. The shot cannot drop below the shoulder or be brought behind the shoulder line. Any of these violations will result in a fouled throw. Frankie has three more track meets before sectionals on May 21st. There are plenty of opportunities to add distance and break his own record. Congratulations, Frankie! Good luck with the rest of your season! #Hornetproud
