The BGHS Athletic Department is sad to announce that Coach Joe Rihm will be resigning as the head coach for the boys' basketball program. In his tenure as head coach, Coach Rihm refocused the team to a semi-state appearance during the 2022-2023 season. Coaching a younger and less experienced team this season, Coach Rihm continued to mentor and push his athletes to see growth and elevate their basketball skills. Coach Rihm is looking forward to spending quality time with his family, especially watching his daughter play sports. He has also expressed a desire to focus more on athletic administration. We are grateful for his dedication and continued impact on our student-athletes beyond just the wins and losses. Coach Rihm had this to say about his recent resignation, “I am honored to have had this opportunity and proud to have represented the Beech Grove community as the head basketball coach. I have wholeheartedly enjoyed my time coaching and teaching the game of basketball to student-athletes since 2014. The decision to step away from coaching was not a decision that was easy, nor was it made lightly, and I am grateful to everyone who has been a part of the journey. I look forward to remaining involved with student-athletes in a broader capacity in my role as Assistant Athletic Director at Beech Grove.” Coach Rihm's departure will inevitably leave a vacancy in our program but also presents an opportunity for renewal and continued growth. As we move forward, BGHS is committed to hiring a head coach who exhibits the core foundational beliefs of the BGHS Athletic Department and Beech Grove City Schools.
