Girls' Basketball Program Soaked Up the Summer

The Beech Grove Girls' Basketball program made the most of their time together this summer. The coaches and players have been busy continuing to build their skills, bond as a team, and learn from veteran players. To kick off the summer workout season, roughly 30 girls and five coaches went on an all inclusive BG GBB retreat to Anderson University. During the three day two night stay, they worked on team and individual basketball skill development, leadership classroom sessions, and played competitive yard games when not on the court or in the classroom. July was a busy month for BG GBB program. It started with a 4-day youth camp that worked on skills, fundamentals and development. On the last night, Championship Day, they hosted 7 championships in 4 divisions. Many thanks to our proud sponsor Alford Insurance. Each camper came away with a t-shirt, a higher basketball IQ, and some great memories. In lieu of the 2025 WNBA All-Star weekend, BG GBB hosted the CAN-AM camp at Beech Grove Middle School. Jenn Mathurin, sister of Pacer player Benedict Mathurin, brought in 40 players to partake in this 3-day weekend. The weekend was packed with fun, hard work, and top-notch competition. It was an unforgettable experience. The team also took part in a financial literacy workshop led by Key Bank and a mental health and wellness session by Dr. Morgan Thomas. In addition, our BG GBB players were able to play pick up with Benedict himself! Of course we can't forget about the hard working middle school team. Our 8th grade team took first in the Jr. Lady Mac summer league games. Teams consisted of Ben Davis, Roncalli, Pike, and LN. A huge shout out needs to go out to Coach Selk and her coaching staff that made these amazing opportunities possible for our Lady Hornets. We also want to shout out the hard working student athletes that sacrificed part of their summer break to dedicate time to their sport and improve their skills. We can't wait to see you all out on the court once the season starts. Go Hornets!
